Gordes & the Sénanque Abbey

A 12th-century abbey where Cistercian monks still tend their own lavender fields. We time the visit for morning light. The monks sell their oil and honey only here — made in silence during harvest.

Roussillon, in the Luberon Valley

A village built into the world’s largest ochre deposit — painted in seventeen shades of red, orange, and gold. Picasso bought his pigments here in the 1940s. Alongside lavender purple, the contrast is unlike anything else in France.

Moustiers-Sainte-Marie
